What is STEAM?
STEAM learning emphasizes collaboration, communication, research, problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity. Design challenges and art projects refine student skills generated by the engineering process and imagination drawn by the arts.
Why is STEAM Important?
STEAM career fields are growing rapidly, specifically in computer science. People who work in a STEAM career field earn an average of 26% more than people employed in non-STEAM fields. Providing students with a strong STEAM foundation places them at an advantage toward a successful college and career path.
Goals of our STEAM Program:
- To become familiar with the engineering design process by working through STEAM challenges
- To introduce STEAM technology and basic coding in computer science and foundational robotics
- To use the engineering design process to work through more complex STEAM challenges
- To build STEAM technology, knowledge, and use block coding in computer science and robotics
- To use the engineering design process to work through both open-ended and self-directed STEAM challenges
- To use 3-D printing, STEAM design software, and block coding in a variety of projects
